Steve Roach

Steve RoachSteve is the newest member of The New Originals. To say that music is his life is an understatement. Steve has been the Director of Jazz Studies at California State University Sacramento since 2001. He has also served as Director of Jazz Studies at Baylor University and held teaching positions at the University of Northern Colorado and Northern Illinois University. Steve’s duties at CSUS include directing the two large Jazz Ensembles and the Latin Jazz Ensemble. In addition, Steve teaches courses in Jazz Pedagogy and Jazz Styles and offers private instruction in jazz trumpet. Steve also directs the annual CSUS Summer Jazz Camp that features the Jim Widner Big Band, and the annual CSUS Winter Jazz Festival. Steve holds a Bachelor of Music degree in trumpet performance from Indiana University, a Master of Music degree in trumpet performance from Northern Illinois University, and a Doctor of Arts degree from the University of Northern Colorado. Professional appearances as an assisting artist by Steve include studio and live sessions with such jazz/pop musicians as Tito Puente, Bob Mintzer, Louis Bellson, Clark Terry, Conrad Herwig, Lou Rawls, Jon Tchicai, Ben Vereen, Melissa Manchester, Toni Tennille, Roberta Flack, Rob McConnel, Jon Faddis, Rosemary Clooney, Jeffrey Osbourne, Claudio Roditi, Carl Fontana, Paquito D’Rivera, the Glenn Miller and Jimmy Dorsey Orchestras, and others. Steve is currently serving on the Executive Board of the California Institute for the Preservation of Jazz and the Capital Section of the California Music Educators Association.
